The Order of the Kannen (complete and originally Spanish: Orden de la Jarra y el Grifo ; German: Order of the Kanne and the Griffin ) or Aragonischer Kannenorden was an order of knights founded by Ferdinand of Aragon in 1403 during the battles with the Moors .

The sign of the order was a golden jug with three erupting lilies - the three lilies were considered the image of the purity of the “ Mother of God ” - as well as a golden griffin hanging under an image of Mary with a mandorla , which bears the currency ribbon with the Spanish inscription “por so amor "(=" Out of love for her ") holds in its clutches (see adjacent illustration). On Saturdays and Marian feasts, the order members put on a white sash with the order's insignia (see also the picture of the portrait of Oswald von Wolkenstein).
