Franz-Heinz Hye

Franz-Heinz Hye (also from Hye or Hye-Kerkdal ; * December 21, 1937 in Innsbruck ; † November 30, 2016 there ) was an Austrian historian and archivist .

Hye grew up in Amras and initially completed a degree in History and Geography at the University of Innsbruck , where he in 1962 with his thesis The contribution of family wine hard to Tyrolean intellectual history of the 17th and 18th centuries doctorate was. He then deepened his studies at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research in Vienna . After working in the Tyrolean Provincial Archives for six years, in 1969 he was entrusted with the management of the Innsbruck City Archives , which he held until his retirement. In this function, in 1970 he established the tradition of half-yearly exhibitions in the city archives, which has continued for decades. The main research areas of Hyes were the Innsbruck city history, heraldry and the history of the cities, markets and communities of the historic county of Tyrol . In 1985 he completed his habilitation in “auxiliary sciences and Tyrolean regional history” at the University of Innsbruck. At his alma mater , Hye, who was also a Familiar of the Teutonic Order and holder of the Cross of Merit of the State of Tyrol , taught as an associate professor in retirement .
