Karakorum is a Bavarian herb rock band from Mühldorf am Inn .
history
Axel Hackner, Jonas Kollenda and Max Schörghuber met in elementary school and played together with Bastian Schuhbeck in the band Foreign Faces . After Axel Hackner went on a seven-month trip to Asia with Berhard Huber , the decision was made in 2014 to start over with music. Foreign Faces was dissolved and Karakoram was founded.
In May 2016, the band released their first self-titled, recorded live demo - CD , among other things, the three-part, 42-minute long track Betelgeuse contains the revised in September 2017 and extended arrangement on digipack CD and LP as an independent debut album on Tonzonen Records was brought out again.
Musical style
The musicians are based on the sound of the 1970s , so the quintet names Birth Control , King Crimson , Yes , Frank Zappa , Gentle Giant and Led Zeppelin as their greatest influences.
Special characteristics of their music are frequent and sudden stroke - and tempos -Change and odd time signatures, harmony songs, variation and Imitation recurring musical themes and the alternation of unison - tunes - or riffs , virtuoso solos , improvisation and seemingly chaotic avant-garde passages.
It is also characterized by the extensive use of percussion and effect instruments (including lotus flute , cowbells , shaker , hand cymbals and a manually operated siren ), which are operated by all musicians, as well as various keyboard sounds ( Hammond organ , harpsichord , e-piano , Synthesizer ). In addition to English text passages, the musicians occasionally use incomprehensible fantasy language ; in general, however, her music is more instrumental .
reception
Christoph Höhl writes about Betelgeuse in SLAM alternative music magazine :
"[Karakorum] deliver [...] an imposing album full of changes of direction and settle somewhere between goose bumps melody in the singing and rhythmic variation between rock and jazz, whereby they always take care to limit their sometimes obscure escapades to a level, so that inexperienced listeners are not overwhelmed in jazz. "
Gunnar Claussen awards 8 out of 15 points:
“Karakorum's strengths lie in its playful ability and the tastefully rounded retro sound. The songs can, however, still use a good portion of cohesion, especially with regard to the motivation, embedding and design of instrumental passages. "
The eclipsed Rock Magazine awards Betreuteuse 7 out of 10 stars, betreutesproggen.de 12 out of 15 points.
