Karczew is a Polish city in the Powiat Otwocki in the Masovian Voivodeship . Karczew is also the seat of the town and country municipality of the same name ( gmina miejsko-wiejska ).
geography
Karczew is located 24 km southeast of Warsaw on the right bank of the Vistula .
history
Karczew received on 21 January 1548, the city charter and the right is a weekly market and hold two fairs a year. In 1577 a fire destroyed large parts of the city. For the reconstruction of the city, the citizens were exempted from taxes for a few years. In the course of the Northern War in autumn 1704, Swedish troops crossed the Vistula near Karczew. After the second partition of Poland, Karczew came under Russian administration. In 1809 Karczew was occupied by Austrian troops. In 1831 the city came under Russian administration again.
From 1975 to 1998 the municipality was part of the Warsaw Voivodeship .

The municipality has an area of 81.49 km². 58% of the municipal area is used for agriculture, 24% is covered with forest.

The municipality includes the fifteen Sołectwo (school offices ) Brzezinka, Całowanie, Glinki, Janów, Kępa Nadbrzeska, Kosumce, Łukówiec, Nadbrzeż, Ostrówek, Ostrówiec, Otwock Mały, Otwock Wielki, Piotrowice , the Kępa Nadbrzeska heard.
education
The municipality has five kindergartens ( Przedszkole ), three elementary schools ( szkoła podstawowa ) and one middle school ( gimnazjum ). There is a library in the community with three branches.
