Karen Bennett

Karen Bennett (born February 5, 1989 in Perth , Australia ) is a British rower .

Athletic career

Karen Bennett grew up in Scotland and began rowing in Strathclyde Park near Glasgow. She studied sports rehabilitation at St Mary's University in London. As a member of the British national team, she is a member of the Leander Club .

At the U23 World Championships in 2011, she finished fifth with eighth . In 2014 she won the student world championships with the four-man without a helmsman . In 2015 she started in the Rowing World Cup together with Rebecca Chin in a double without a helmsman and took tenth place twice. At the 2015 World Championships , Chin, Bennett, Lucinda Gooderham and Holly Norton rowed in a foursome without a helmsman and won the silver medal behind the US boat. In 2016 she moved to the British eight. At the European Championships in Brandenburg an der Havel , the eighth with Catherine Greves , Melanie Wilson , Frances Houghton , Polly Swann , Jessica Eddie , Olivia Carnegie-Brown , Karen Bennett, Zoe Lee and helmsman Zoe de Toledo won ahead of the Dutch women. At the 2016 Olympic Games , the US eight won ahead of the British European champions. At the end of May 2017, Bennett and Holly Norton competed in two without a helmsman at the European Championships in Račice u Štětí and won the bronze medal behind the boats from Romania and Denmark. In August 2018, Bennett won the silver medal at the European Championships behind the Romanian boat with the British eighth and finished sixth at the World Championships . In 2019, the British eighth won the silver medal behind the Romanians at the European Championships in Lucerne.
