Karilatsi (Kanepi)

Karilatsi (German Karilatz ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in southeast Estonia . It belongs to the rural municipality of Kanepi ( Kõlleste until 2017 ) in Põlva County .
Population and location
The village has 61 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located 31 kilometers southeast of the second largest Estonian city Tartu on the Piigaste oja stream .
Farm Museum
Karilatsi is home to the Põlva Farming Museum (Põlva talurahvamuuseum) , the largest open-air museum in South Estonia. It was launched in 1971 by the local researcher Kalju Kermas (1929–1989) and opened to visitors in 1977.
The museum in the former school building built in 1889 offers a comprehensive picture of the history and rural way of life of the local population through the centuries. In addition, numerous historical buildings can be seen, including a historical smoke sauna and an old wooden windmill.
