Karim El Ahmadi Arrousi ( Arabic كريم الأحمدي, DMG Karīm al-Aḥmadī , Central Atlas Tamazight ⴽⴰⵔⵉⵎ ⵍⴰⵃⵎⴰⴷⵉ Karim Laḥmadi ; * January 27, 1985 in Enschede ) is a Moroccan-Dutch football player . His preferred position is the defensive midfield.
Club career
El Ahmadi was born and raised in the Netherlands and began his career at UDI, an association from his home town of Enschede . From 1996 he played for the youth teams of FC Twente Enschede . On March 21, 2004 he made his debut in the game against FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie . With Twente Enschede he won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2006 and took part in the UEFA Cup . In the 2007/08 season he finished fourth in the table with Twente. After defeating NAC Breda and Ajax Amsterdam in the play-offs, Twente qualified for the qualifying round for the Champions League . El Ahmadi, however, left the club and joined Feyenoord Rotterdam, where he signed a five-year deal. In January 2011 he was loaned to Al-Ahli FC in the UAE Arabian Gulf League of the United Arab Emirates until the end of the season.
National team
El Ahmadi took part with Morocco in the Junior World Cup in 2005 and finished fourth there. On November 19, 2008, he made his debut against Zambia in the Moroccan national team . He played with Morocco at the 2012 , 2013 and 2017 Africa Cups . He was also in Morocco's squad for the 2018 World Cup . After a 2-2 draw against Spain and two 0-1 defeats against Portugal and Iran , Morocco was the last in Group B to be eliminated from the tournament. El Ahmadi was used in all three games.
