Karin Gilliam , actually Karin von Jutrzenka Trzebiatowski -Gilliam , formerly known as Karin Wiesmann (* 1939 in Reichenbach in the Eulengebirge ) is a painter and illustrator .

Life

As a painter, initially known by the name of her first husband as Karin Wiesmann , Gilliam has had over 100 exhibitions since the 1970s, a third of them abroad, and although she started painting as an autodidact , she won four art prizes. During the time she worked at S. Fischer Verlag, she wrote and illustrated children's stories for other publishers such as Beltz & Gelberg , wrote a small play and the screenplay for the surrealistic children's film Princess Horsehair or The Song of the Leopard , for which she wrote 42 pictures painted, mostly animal and jungle scenes.

She lived for a long time in Frankfurt am Main , where she ran a gallery for contemporary art, Galerie Grüner Panther, for 17 years, and presented the works of domestic and foreign painters, sculptors and photographers.

Between 1985 and 1992, after winning several competitions advertised by the State of Hesse, she devoted herself more to painting walls in public buildings (State Chemical Investigation Office Wiesbaden, Karben vocational training center, gym, lounge, discotheque). Bauscher -Hutschenreuther gave her the chance to paint two series of porcelain plates for exhibitions and to design samples for the factory. Her pictures were reproduced on postcards, calendars, posters and art prints.

In 1985, together with her second husband, the American sculptor Franklin Gilliam, who had died in the meantime, she found the Mulino Rotone , an ancient building, former oil and grain mill, "the largest ruin that could be had" in Tuscany . Her book Mulino Rotone - The dream of a house in Toscana reports with many bizarre incidents of the years of search for a house in which one could live and work and the discovery and restoration of the natural stone buildings and the property in Castagneto Carducci .
