Karin Kathrein

Karin Kathrein (born June 7, 1938 in Vienna ) is an Austrian journalist , publicist , cultural critic and theater scholar .

Life

Kathrein completed a degree in theater studies, art history and philosophy at the University of Vienna , where she received her PhD in 1965. phil. PhD. After completing her studies, she initially worked as a director and production assistant as well as a dramaturge. From 1970 to 1988 she was culture editor and from 1985 head of the press department . This was followed by engagements as head of the culture department at the weekly newspaper Die Ganz Woche , from 1990 to 1993 as editor-in-chief of the magazine Die Bühne and from 1993 to 2001 as culture editor and theater critic for Kurier . Since 2002 she has been working as a freelance author for various book series, journals and magazines, such as text + kritik .

Kathrein is one of the most prominent theater critics in Vienna.

Until 2018 she was chair of the jury for the Nestroy Theater Prize . As part of the 2018 Nestroy Theater Prize , she was awarded an Honorary Nestroy.
