Karin Priester , née Brachmann (born December 29, 1941 in Gleiwitz , † April 25, 2020 in Münster ) was a German historian and political scientist .

life and work

Karin Priester studied Romance studies, history, philosophy and political science at the universities in Cologne , Aix-en-Provence , Berlin and Florence . She did her doctorate in history and completed her habilitation in political science at the Philipps University of Marburg with a thesis on the state theory of Italian Marxism . After substituting professorships at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen and the RWTH Aachen University , from 1980 she held a professorship with a focus on political sociology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . In February 2007 she retired . After that, Priester dealt primarily with the topics of populism and right-wing extremism , whereby her numerous publications reflect a broad spectrum of interests and also include literary and biographical works. Karin Priester died in April 2020 at the age of 78 in Münster.
