Karl-Heinz Barth

Karl-Heinz Barth (born March 3, 1937 in Zwickau ; † February 1, 2011 at Aconcagua ) was a German architect and art historian .

Life

From 1951, Barth completed a three-year apprenticeship as a cabinet maker and furniture maker and in 1958 received his master craftsman's certificate . From 1961 he studied interior design at the Wismar-Heiligendamm Technical School for Applied Arts . There followed a correspondence course at the School of Industrial Design , Giebichenstein for professional architects building room and an external study of art history at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg , where he continued his in 1983 dissertation about Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel presented and 1984 doctorate was. Subsequently, until 1990, Barth was head of the project department at the Halle interior project, Karl-Marx-Stadt division, and then as a freelance architect (Arnold + Dr. Barth architects).

In 1991 he was one of the co-founders of the Saxony Regional Association of the Federation of German Architects and the Saxony Chamber of Architects . Barth was a board member of the Saxony Chamber of Architects until 1997 and from 1993 to 2003 he was state chairman of the Association of German Architects in Saxony . In 2002 he was appointed to the Saxon Academy of the Arts .

Barth gained notoriety through his involvement in the renovation of historic buildings in Chemnitz , including the Villa Esche , the Stadtbad and the opera house .

Between 1995 and 1999 Barth headed the SPD parliamentary group in the Chemnitz city council. In 2003 he gave up his architecture office in Chemnitz and dedicated himself to mountaineering. He climbed u. a. the Kilimanjaro , Mont Blanc and Ararat . On February 1, 2011, Barth had a fatal accident while climbing the Aconcagua .
