Karl-Heinz Bergstrasse

Karl-Heinz Bergsträßer (* 1937 in Groß-Bieberau ) is a former German handball trainer .

Career and successes

After completing secondary school at the Bieberauer Citizens' School (today: Albert Einstein School), Bergsträßer went to the Alte Realgymnasium in Darmstadt , today's Georg Büchner School . After high school he started at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , a teaching degree . One of the subjects was sports . At the same time he was a youth coach in the handball department of TSG Groß-Bieberau . In 1963 he finished his studies. With the youth team of TSG Groß-Bieberau, Bergsträßer was German runner-up behind THW Kiel in 1971 . Two years later he achieved this success again with the A-youth of TSV Kirch-Brombach. In 1980 he went to TV Großwallstadt . In 1983 he succeeded Klaus Zöll as coach of the local Bundesliga team . With the team, Bergsträßer became German champion in 1984 , DHB Cup winner and IHF Cup winner. After 67 Bundesliga games, Bergsträßer left Großwallstadt in 1985. Bergsträßer resigned on March 9th after a 17:25 defeat at SG Weiche-Handewitt (today SG Flensburg-Handewitt ) under pressure from the club management. His successor was Klaus Zöll until the end of the season. He went back to Groß-Bieberau, where he was the sporting director and second chairman of TSG until 2007.

In parallel to his sporting activities, Bergsträßer was a teacher at the Albert Einstein School in Groß-Bieberau until 1970. After that he was head of school sports at the Darmstadt regional council until 1986 and then head of the Babenhäusener high school. At the age of 63 he retired there.

Bergsträßer is married and has two daughters (* 1966 and * 1973) and five grandchildren. In Groß-Bieberau, Bergsträßer is chairman of the senior citizens' council.
