Karl-Heinz Köhler (born 1943 ) is a German teacher and development worker .

Life

Karl-Heinz Köhler studied German literature , history , political science , sociology and pedagogy at the University of Erlangen, Göttingen and Munich and in 1974 at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich to Dr. phil. PhD .

After training as a trainee teacher at the Willstätter Gymnasium in Nuremberg , he became a teacher of German, history and social studies at the Max Planck Gymnasium in Munich in 1976 . From 1978 to 1982 he headed the “Social Studies at High School” department of the State Institute for School Quality and Educational Research .

From 1985 to 1991 Köhler worked as a teacher and department head at the International German School in Brussels .

In 2002 he was given a teaching position at the chair for didactics of German language and literature at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich.

In 2003, Köhler was appointed federal coordinator of around 200 German UNESCO project schools. He held this office until 2008. He then gave lectures on topics related to education for sustainable development and intercultural relationships, among others. a. in Oman, Luxembourg, Nigeria and Germany. From 2009 to 2010 he worked as a consultant and private lecturer for education at TTC Riyadh University in Saudi Arabia .

At the end of 2010, together with the current federal coordinator of the German UNESCO project schools, Heinz-Jürgen Rickert, and the national coordinator of the UNESCO school network in Tanzania, Modester M. Mwinula, he founded the "Institute for Intercultural and Innovative Learning / Model Schools for Africa" ​​for which he has since acted as managing director. “Model schools for Africa” builds and designs model schools on the African continent in order to promote better educational opportunities. The first school, the One World Secondary School Kilimanjaro , was founded in 2012 as a pilot project and the first UNESCO project school in Tanzania with a strong international focus. Karl-Heinz Köhler has been the headmaster there since it was founded. The project was u. a. supported by the international student initiative MoveForwardProject .
