Karl-Heinz Theisen (born August 5, 1940 in Düsseldorf ; † November 15, 2015 there ) was a German entrepreneur, art collector and cultural expert. He was chairman of the "Friends of Heinrich Heine".

Life

Karl-Heinz Theisen was born in 1940 into an old-established family from the Volmerswerth district and grew up with his two siblings in Düsseldorf. His father was an independent delicatessen dealer with several shops in Düsseldorf and was killed in World War II in 1944 .

In the 1950s, Karl-Heinz Theisen began an apprenticeship with the Düsseldorf city council and later studied administrative sciences with a degree in administrative management (FH). At the same time he attended the Administration and Business Academy in Düsseldorf with a focus on law and administration. Until the mid-1990s he worked in the higher service of local government (organization, real estate management and art). In 1995 he took early retirement for health reasons.

At the end of the 1990s he founded a real estate company in Düsseldorf with his two sons Andreas Theisen and Christian Theisen . Since 2009, as the founder of Free-Media Verlag, he was the publisher and editor-in-chief of the Düsseldorf society magazine DJournal , which has existed for several decades. In 2012 Karl-Heinz Theisen was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis and in 2013 a TIPS was used. He then handed over the work as editor of the society magazine DJournal to his wife Evelin Theisen due to health issues. He died on November 15, 2015 at the age of 75 in his hometown of Düsseldorf and was buried in the Nordfriedhof . The grave stele is adorned with a bronze relief made by Bert Gerresheim and Karl-Heinz Schmäke .

As a part-time job, Karl-Heinz Theisen was managing director of the municipal Düsseldorf artist studio society for about 20 years, which gave him intensive contact with the Düsseldorf artist scene and developed his special interest in the visual arts. Early on, his close circle of friends included artists such as Jörg Immendorff , Anatol Herzfeld , Klaus Rinke , Udo Dziersk and the sculptor Bert Gerresheim . Art collectors such as Wolfgang Schulhoff , Hans-Georg Ruckes and Karl-Heinrich Müller , with whom he developed the later Museum Insel Hombroich in Neuss-Holzheim , should also be mentioned.

The interest in culture and art gave rise to functions in these areas early on. He worked as a lecturer for the art history tours department at the adult education center, as head of the municipal picture gallery in Düsseldorf City Hall, gave lectures on art, was a columnist in various specialist magazines and directed over 150 charity art auctions for social purposes (AIDS aid, UNESCO, children in need, children's cancer aid, rainbow country children's hospice in Düsseldorf, artists' aid etc.).

Karl-Heinz Theisen made a name for himself as an art expert and art collector. His collection included contemporary works (pictures, drawings, collages, sculptures, artistic photos) without exception by artists from Düsseldorf, in particular by graduates and lecturers of the Düsseldorf Art Academy .

Cultural life

Karl-Heinz Theisen was chairman of the Kunst im Krankenhaus association , which wanted to reduce the fear of thresholds in the hospitals and awarded prizes to young Düsseldorf artists, as well as chairman of the Friends of Theater an der Kö , the non-subsidized theater in Düsseldorf, especially the Theater an der Kö, supported.

It is thanks to his many years of service that the poet and writer Heinrich Heine was honored in 2010 with the installation of a bust designed by the artist Bert Gerresheim in the Walhalla .

A social circle known beyond Düsseldorf is the Freundeskreis Heinrich Heine , of which he has been chairman since he was founded in 1997.

Honors

Karl-Heinz Theisen rejected all honors. In 2006 he only accepted the Brothers Jacobi plaque in recognition of outstanding socio-political and cultural commitment to his hometown. The laudator was Udo van Meeteren , the patron of the arts and honorary citizen of the city of Düsseldorf .

Memberships

The memberships included the Industrie-Club Düsseldorf , the Kunstverein Düsseldorf , the Heimatverein Düsseldorfer Jonges and the Alde Düsseldorfer Bürgergesellschaft .
