Karl-Thomas Neumann (born April 1, 1961 in Twistringen , Lower Saxony ) is a board member of the US company Canoo (previously Evelozcity) and was previously CEO of Adam Opel AG from March 2013 to June 2017 .

education

Neumann studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund , then completed his community service and then initially worked for the Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems in Duisburg . At the University of Duisburg he was awarded a Dr.-Ing. PhD.

Career history

From 1993 Neumann worked for Motorola GmbH as a development and systems engineer, most recently as head of global strategic marketing for the automotive market.

In 1999 he moved to Volkswagen AG , where he initially headed electronics research and then corporate research. He later rose to head the group-wide electronics strategy. He then took over the division management of electrics / electronics development.

In 2004, Neumann moved to Continental AG , where he took over the Continental Automotive Systems (CAS) division as a member of the Executive Board . A key feature of his work at Continental AG was the takeover of the automotive division from Siemens-VDO , which made Continental AG the second largest German supplier of automotive electronics, behind Robert Bosch GmbH . He also acquired the automotive electronics business from his former employer Motorola.

From September 2008 to August 2009 Neumann was CEO of the automotive supplier Continental. Before that, he was the Group's chief technology officer. Neumann left the company at his own request due to differing views on the strategic direction of Continental with the major Conti shareholder Schaeffler .

On December 1, 2009, Neumann became Group Representative for Electric Traction and General Representative of Volkswagen AG. In this newly created position, he was responsible for the development of electric drives and reported directly to the chairman of the board, Martin Winterkorn . Since September 1, 2010 Neumann has been President & CEO of Volkswagen Group China and headed the Volkswagen Group's China business . Due to changes in management, he lost this position again in mid-2012.

Neumann was head of Adam Opel AG from March 2013 to June 2017 . His successor is the former Opel CFO Michael Lohscheller. Since the beginning of 2018, Neumann has been responsible for mobility in the management team of the Californian company Evelozcity.

Private

Karl-Thomas Neumann is an avid marathon runner and father of three sons.
