Carl-Peter Forster

Carl-Peter Forster (born May 9, 1954 in London ) is a German manager in the automotive industry . From 2010 to September 2011 he was Chief Executive Officer for the Indian company Tata Motors . Before that, he held top positions at Opel and General Motors Europe.

Life

Forster joined the University of Bonn to study economics and at the Technical University of Munich one of the aerospace engineering from. In 1982 he became a management consultant at McKinsey in Munich , and in 1986 head of the development department at BMW . Since then he has worked in the automotive industry. From 1996 to 1999 he was Managing Director at BMW South Africa and then as a board member responsible for global production. From 2001 to 2004 he was CEO of Opel and from 2004 to 2009 CEO of General Motors Europe and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Adam Opel GmbH . In February 2010 he was appointed CEO of Tata Motors . Surprisingly, Tata Motors announced on September 9, 2011 that Forster was stepping down from his position due to personal circumstances with immediate effect. However, at the request of the Board of Directors, he remains a non-executive member of the Board of Directors.

Carl-Peter Forster is married and has three children. He lives in Oxford , UK .
