Karl Eggers (politician)

Karl Eggers (born October 14, 1919 in Lehe ; † May 4, 2004 in Bremerhaven ) was a German trade union official and a Bremen Senator ( SPD ).

biography

Eggers attended elementary school and trained as a blacksmith. He took an active part in the trade union movement. From 1927 to 1933 he was a member of socialist youth organizations. During the National Socialist era , he took part in illegal actions against the Nazis until 1936. From 1939 to 1945 he served in the Navy.

After the Second World War he had been employed in a personnel office in the overseas port from 1946. From 1948 to 1954 he was secretary and later managing director of the Public Services, Transport and Traffic Union (ÖTV). From 1946 to 1959 he was a member of the city council of Bremerhaven and was elected chairman of the SPD parliamentary group there in 1951. From 1955 to 1959 he was head of the city council. From 1954 to 1959 he acted as managing director of GEWOBA Bremerhaven. He was also the managing director of Neue Heimat . He was also chairman of the SPD in Bremerhaven.

Eggers was elected to Bremen's citizenship in 1959 and was then Senator for Economics and Foreign Trade of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen from 1959 to 1970 as the successor to Senator Hermann Wolters (SPD) . Senator Oskar Schulz (SPD) succeeded him in this office . From 1970 to 1971 Eggers was again a member of the citizenry.
