Karl Friedrich Christian Wilhelm von Sponeck

Count Karl Friedrich Christian Wilhelm von Sponeck (born July 19, 1762 in Ludwigsburg , † October 4, 1827 in Heidelberg ) was a German forester , author of non-fiction books and professor of forest science at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

His parents were the chamberlain and chief forester Count Friedrich Ludwig von Sponneck (1725–1792) and his wife Christine Dorothea Pfister (1734–1792).

Life

His school career began in Heidelberg, from where he moved to the high Charles School in Stuttgart in 1779 . When he left there in 1781, he had won prizes in botany , plant physiology and forest science. After a cavalier tour of Europe, he became head of the ducal Württemberg body hunter corps in Hohenheim . He became head forest master and head forest master in Blaubeuren , Altensteig and later in Neuenbürg . Since 1791 he drew attention to himself through a series of publications. In 1805 he was appointed associate professor of forest science at Heidelberg University and in 1808 full professor. In 1811 he was awarded a doctorate by the philosophy faculty there .

Like many of his colleagues, he was also a member of the Societät der Forst- und Jagdkunde zu Waltershausen founded by Johann Matthäus Bechstein .

Works

His work belongs to the forest cameralist school and is only of historical interest today. His first publications were articles in magazines such as the Stuttgart economic weekly or in Ludwig von Wildungen's pocket book for forest and hunting enthusiasts .
