Karl Friedrich Wilhelm von Bomsdorff (born October 28, 1826 in Kemberg (Wittenberg district), † May 27, 1904 in Naumburg (Saale) ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 4th Cavalry Brigade .

origin

His parents were the major a. D. Karl Wilhelm vom Bomsdorff (1792–1872) and his wife Karoline Friederike Sophie, born von Goerne (1808–1878).

Life

He went to Potsdam as a cadet on September 2, 1838 and from there to Berlin as a cadet on August 9, 1841 . After his graduation, he came on July 4, 1844 as a porter ensign in the 2nd Guard-Uhlan-Landwehr Regiment. He received on March 15, 1845 the character of Second Lieutenant and on November 13, 1845 the patent with the date of March 15, he was aggregated into the regiment and on February 10, 1848 classified. During the March Revolution of 1848 he then took part in the street fighting in Berlin. From October 1, 1851 to September 30, 1853 he was posted to the military riding school. He then rose on July 11, 1854 to Premier Lieutenant and on April 13, 1858 to Rittmeister. During the mobilization of 1859 he came on March 13, 1859 as a leader in the replacement squadron , on June 30, 1859 he was then squadron chief in the 2nd Guard Uhlan Regiment .

During the German War of 1866 he fought in the Battle of Königgrätz . On October 30, 1866, he joined the 13th Uhlan Regiment as a major and regular staff officer. During the mobilization for the Franco-Prussian War he was transferred to the 4th Reserve Uhlan Regiment (1st Heavy Cavalry Regiment) on July 17, 1870. During the campaign he fought in the sieges of Metz , Soissons and Merczenes. For this he received the Iron Cross 2nd Class on October 16, 1870 .
On January 18, 1870, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel, on April 4, 1871, he joined the army officers with the duties of a regimental commander. From there he came on May 5, 1871 as an inspector in the replacement squadron in the district of the X. Army Corps , but on June 24, 1871 he was commander of the 8th Uhlan Regiment . On March 22, 1873, he was promoted to colonel. On June 26, 1877, he was transferred to the 4th Cavalry Brigade as commander and was placed a la suite of the regiment. On August 31, 1878, he was awarded the Order of the
Crown, 2nd Class , was promoted to Major General on January 14, 1879, and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, on September 16, 1879 . But on May 12, 1881, he was put up for disposal with a pension .

He died on May 27, 1904 in Naumburg an der Saale.

family

Bomsdorff married Luise Mathilde Henriette von Berneck on September 23, 1858 in Berlin (* July 18, 1836, † May 16, 1890). The couple had several children:

  • Gottfried Kuno (born October 20, 1862), major in Hussar Regiment No. 4

  • Olga (born January 27, 1875)
  • Vera (born October 25, 1879)

After the death of his first wife, he married Freiin Helene von Türcke on June 20, 1891 in Berlin (* April 7, 1869). The widow married the engineer NN Haug and went with him to Paraguay, South America.
