Karl Friedrich von Meyer (born July 20, 1707 in Marienwerder , † September 9, 1775 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and chief of the 6th Dragoon Regiment .

Life

His parents were the Prussian Colonel a. D. from the cuirassier regiment "Buddenbrook" Samuel Sebastian Meyer (* 1670; † January 10, 1741) and one from Gotsch.

Military career

Meyer became a cadet in Berlin on January 24, 1724 . As early as June 6, 1725 he became a flag squire in the cuirassier regiment No. 1. He and his father were raised to the Prussian nobility on June 9, 1729 . He became Rittmeister in 1737 and received his father's former company , who at the time was transferred to Frankfurt an der Oder as a commander . On January 14, 1742 he was then major in the Dragoon Regiment "Posadowski" , on August 8, 1745 lieutenant colonel and on May 14, 1750 colonel. In June 1755, King Friedrich II transferred him to the “Bayreuth” dragoon regiment , and Meyer became the governor of Memel.

He had to give up the position of governor again in 1760. On February 21, 1757 he was appointed major general and on November 6, 1760 he was chief of the Dragoon Regiment "von Schorlemmer" and on May 20, 1771 Lieutenant General. Meyer fought very successfully in the Silesian Wars and received the order Pour le Mérite for it . In the Seven Years' War he was wounded twice during the siege of Olomouc , and also in 1762 near Grumbach. In the battle of Torgau he showed his bravery at the head of the dragoons regiment "Bayreuth". Meyer died of a painful illness unmarried on September 9, 1775 in Königsberg.
