Karl Friedrich von Wickede

Karl Friedrich von Wickede , also Carl , Friedrich Carl , completely C / Karl Georg Gottlieb Friedrich von Wickede (born August 1, 1827 in Güstrow , † November 13, 1881 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German writer and educator.

Life

He came from the Mecklenburg branch of the Lübeck patrician family von Wickede and was a son of Landdrosten and later state tax director Ludwig August Leonhard von Wickede (1797–1867). After attending the large city school in Rostock , he did a business apprenticeship in Stettin from 1843 . In 1849 he emigrated to the USA. Here he was first a postal worker in New Orleans and then went to New York City , where he learned the soap boiler trade. He then moved to Iowa as a farmer and hunter . He returned to Germany twice and also lived temporarily in Canada .

In 1865 he returned to Germany for good and became an unskilled worker at the Central Office for Trade and Industry in Württemberg . In 1869 he worked as a language teacher in Mannheim , but was expelled from the Grand Duchy of Baden because of a writing about Kaspar Hauser . He then moved to Frankfurt am Main, where he stayed until the end of his life.

In addition to articles for the house music of Edmund Hoefer and Friedrich Wilhelm Hackländer 1855 he wrote travel pictures and American novels. In 1877 he published a new German translation of the leather stocking stories edited by James Fenimore Cooper for the youth .
