Karl Gustav von Baggehufwudt ( Russian Карл Густав фон Баггехуфвудт, Карл Фёдорович Багговут ; born September 5, jul. / 16th September  1761 greg. In pergola ; † October 6 jul. / 18th October  1812 greg. In Tarutino ) was a Russian Lieutenant General .

Life

Origin and family

Karl came from the Scandinavian aristocratic family Baggehufwudt , who came to Estonia with the Swedes in 1632 and was included there in 1752 in the register of the Estonian knighthood . He was a son of the judge and heir of Hördel, Pergel and Rettel Friedrich Wilhelm von Baggehufwudt (1726–1785) and Charlotta Eleonora, née. by Rosenthal ad H. Pergel (1743–1768). His wife became Elisabeth von Fock ad H. Hummala. The marriage remained without children.

Career

Baggehufwudt was initially in the service of the Margrave of Ansbach , but joined the Russian army in 1779 . In 1783 he was in the Dnepr regiment and took part in the fighting against the Crimean Tatars . After moving to the Siberian Grenadier Regiment he fought in the second war against the Turks , but received in 1791 for health reasons his farewell as a Major .

It was put back into service in 1792 and distinguished itself in the Kościuszko uprising near Maciejowice . After his promotion to lieutenant colonel , he became commander in 1797 and chief of the 14th Jäger Regiment in 1798 . In 1798 he was promoted to colonel and in 1799 to major general . Paul I said goodbye to him in 1800, while Alexander I was reinstated in his first year of reign and made chief of the 4th Jäger Regiment. During the Fourth Coalition he led larger units, took part in the Battle of Pułtusk and covered the retreat at Prussian Eylau . He received the Order of St. George III for his commitment . Class, the Order of St. Anna 1st Class and the Order of the Red Eagle 1st Class. After his promotion to lieutenant general in 1808 he was commander of the 5th division in Finland and fought in the Finnish War . In 1812 he became the commander of the II Infantry Corps of the I Army under Barclay de Tolly . During Napoleon's Russian campaign , he distinguished himself in the Battle of Borodino and was honored with the Alexander Nevsky Order . He was also the holder of the Order of St. Vladimir, 2nd class. Baggehufwudt is in the battle of Tarutino fallen and was in the monastery of Kaluga buried.
