Karl Haas (pharmacist)

Karl Haas (born September 26, 1869 in Friedrichshafen , † November 26, 1946 in Stuttgart ) was a German pharmacist and manufacturer.

Life

Karl Haas was born as the son of a chief customs administrator. From 1883 he studied with the pharmacist Gustav Ernst Leube in Ulm , and in 1886 he passed the assistant examination in Stuttgart . From 1886 to 1889 he worked as an assistant in Wertheim , Schweinfurt and Lausanne . He studied from 1889 to 1891 at the Kgl. Polytechnic school in Stuttgart, where he passed his pharmacy exam. He then worked as an employee in Ulm and Reutlingen . In 1908 he started his own business as a chemist in Reutlingen , and from 1909 he worked as a manufacturer.

In 1933 he relocated his company with the name "Karl Haas & Co. Chemical-Pharmaceutical Preparations" to Stuttgart. It existed here until 1936. Haas made the sulphurized rock oil preparation “Liasol” from Lias slate . Preparations made from Liass slate were used in dermatology for a long time. Haas described himself as the inventor of Ekajod and Carmium , the "Swabian radium".
