Karl Heinz Kunzmann

Karl Heinz Kunzmann (born May 5, 1930 in Pforzheim ) is a former German diplomat . He represented the Federal Republic of Germany in several countries as ambassador .

Life

Karl Heinz Kunzmann, son of hotelier Karl Kunz man and his wife Helene, nee cancer, began after high school to study subjects of Law , Economics and International Relations at the University of Tübingen , he at the University of Hamburg , the University of London , the University of Paris Sorbonne and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn continued. After taking his first state law examination in Bonn, he passed his second state examination in 1960 at the Cologne Higher Regional Court . In 1960 he received his doctorate as Dr. jur. with the dissertation The further development of martial law in the areas of protection of the wounded and the bombardment of places of residence . In 1960 he began his professional career as a government assessor in the Federal Ministry of Defense and then worked from 1962 to 1964 as a lecturer at the Bundeswehr School for Internal Leadership in Koblenz.

In 1964, Kunzmann joined the Foreign Service and, after serving as a Legation Councilor, was in the section "Peace settlement: issues arising from war and occupation, stationing of foreign troops, foreign debts and confiscated foreign assets" at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn at the Helsinki Trade Mission and at the Consulate General In Istanbul. In 1974 he became ambassador to the United Arab Emirates and stayed there until he was replaced by Hansjoachim Neumann in 1975. After a new assignment in the Foreign Office, he replaced Gerhard Söhnke as ambassador in Haiti in 1979 and held this office until 1982, whereupon Fritjof von Nordenskjöld his successor there. He himself then acted as envoy and permanent representative of the ambassador to Peru between 1982 and 1985 and from 1985 to 1991 as head of a department in the Foreign Office.

Most recently, Kunzmann succeeded Wolfgang Bente as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Tunisia in 1991 . He remained in this position until he retired in 1995 and was then replaced by Klaus Werndl .

His marriage to Elisabeth Busch in 1955 resulted in a daughter.

Awards

Kunzmann is the bearer of the Knight's Cross of the Finnish Order of Lions , the Commander's Cross of the Brazilian " Rio Branco Order ", the Grand Cross of the Haitian Order "Honor and Merit", the Commander's Cross of the Peruvian Order "To Recognize Outstanding Merits", the insignia of a grand officer of the " Order of the Republic of Tunisia "and the Cross of Merit on the ribbon of the" Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany ".
