Karl Hescheler

Karl Hescheler (born November 3, 1868 in Schönenwerd ; died October 11, 1940 in Zurich ) was a Swiss zoologist and the founder of paleontology at the University of Zurich .

Life

Hescheler was the son of August Hescheler and Emilie born. Michler. He himself remained single.

After attending high school in St. Gallen , he first studied at the University of Geneva and graduated from ETH Zurich in 1893 . Doctorate , he was in 1895 at the University of Zurich, where he was three years later qualified as a professor . After the extraordinary professorship from 1903, he was appointed full professor of zoology at the University of Zurich in 1909 . In 1914 he also took over the chair at the ETH. From 1914 to 1938 Hescheler was head of the zoological institute and director of the university museum.

In 1907, Hescheler was a founding member of the Swiss Society for Prehistory and the Swiss Paleontological Society . After first dealing with comparative anatomy and regeneration research, he later focused on archeozoology . He founded paleontology at the University of Zurich.

Emil Kuhn-Schnyder and Fritz Erich Lehmann were among his students .
