Karl "Kalle" Albin Elis Holmberg (born March 3, 1993 in Örebro ) is a Swedish football player who made his debut as a striker in 2011 in the Allsvenskan . In 2017 he was the top scorer of the Swedish championship with 14 goals this season and then made his debut in the Swedish national team the following year .

Career

Holmberg played in his youth at Rynninge IK . Later he made his debut for the lower class appearing Karlslunds IF in the adult area and thus attracted higher class attention. In the early summer of 2009, Örebro SK loaned the player to the end of the year, who then played for the reserve team in the fifth division. After a season with 21 appearances for Karlslunds IF in the fourth division, during which he established himself in the Swedish youth national teams, he moved to Örebro SK in early 2011. In November 2010 he had already signed a contract with ÖSK together with the Gothenburg talent William Atashkadeh .

At first, Holmberg played mainly in the reserve team at Örebro SK, but at the end of the 2011 season he only had a short assignment as a substitute. The following year he sat down in the first division squad and came to a total of 25 games in the Allsvenskan during the season, but at the end of the season he rose with the club in the second-rate Superettan . There he became a regular player under coach Per-Ola Ljung and was on the ball in all 30 games of the season, with ten goals this season he was the club's second-best goalscorer behind Shpëtim Hasani and significantly involved in the return to second place in the table. As a result, in March 2014, before the start of the 2014 season , the club prematurely extended its contract, which was due to expire at the end of the year. In the first division he fluctuated between starting line-up and bench: in the 2015 season he played all 30 games of the season, but was only first choice in 17 games.

At the end of July 2016, with the opening of the summer change period within Allsvenskan , Holmberg switched to the reigning champions IFK Norrköping , where the attacker signed a three and a half year contract. In the 2017 season he appeared as a regular goalscorer, with 14 goals this season he was crowned top scorer of the Swedish championship tied with Magnus Eriksson from Djurgårdens IF Fotbollsförening . Although he missed qualifying for the European Cup with the club as sixth in the table , national coach Janne Andersson honored his achievements and nominated him for the international trip of the Swedish national team in January 2018 to Abu Dhabi . On the occasion of his debut in the 1-1 draw against Estonia on January 7th, he was directly on the scorers list.
