Karl Kuhn (born October 21, 1934 in Bad Urach ; † August 23, 2014 in Eichsel ) was a German biologist and educator . He was Professor of didactics of biology at the Universities of Education in Lörrach and Freiburg i. B.

Life

Kuhn passed the Abitur at the Johannes-Kepler-Gymnasium in Reutlingen . From 1954 he studied at the Pedagogical Institute (PI) in Weingarten , and graduated in 1956 with the state examination as a primary and secondary school teacher. After only a short period of teaching, he began studying natural sciences with biology as a major, geology and chemistry as minor subjects at the Universities of Kiel, Munich and Tübingen. In 1963 he successfully completed this with the state examination for higher education. In 1965 he completed his scientific work for a doctoral thesis and completed his doctorate at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen .

From 1963 Kuhn worked as a research assistant at the Weingarten University of Education . In 1966 he was appointed to the newly founded Lörrach University of Education . At the young, regional PH, he built up the biology department. After the university in Lörrach was closed in 1984, he moved to the Freiburg University of Education . Karl Kuhn retired at the end of the 1998 summer semester .

It was a methodological concern of Kuhn to present biology as a field of knowledge to be developed experimentally and to bring it closer to learners in the field. Kuhn maintained a fruitful collaboration with the biologist Prof. Dr. Wilfried Probst , originally Kuhn's assistant and later himself a lecturer at the Flensburg University of Education . Several publications result from this collaboration, including the two-volume work on a basic biological internship.

In addition to his teaching and training activities, Kuhn devoted himself particularly intensively to practical nature conservation work, making himself a name as a knowledgeable and committed specialist in questions of nature and environmental protection.

On August 23, 2014, Karl Kuhn died with his family in his house in Eichsel am Dinkelberg, where he had lived for almost 50 years.

Kuhn was married to the teacher Ruth geb. Spaeth, the marriage has two daughters and two sons.
