Karl Lärmer

Karl Lärmer (born June 9, 1930 in Wistritz near Teplitz-Schönau, Czechoslovakia ; † 2010 ) was a German economic historian . He worked in the GDR on the history of the Mansfeld copper mining and the construction of the autobahn during National Socialism and was significantly involved in work on the history of the productive forces.

Live and act

Lärmer attended middle school and began an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk in 1944 . After resettlement in 1945 in the course of expelling the Germans from Czechoslovakia , he completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter until 1948 . He was delegated to study and attended the preparatory college in Halle from 1948 to 1950 . In 1950 he passed the school leaving examination .

From 1950 to 1954 Lärmer studied economics and economic history at the Humboldt University in East Berlin , with Jürgen Kuczynski among others . In 1954 he became assistant for economic history and after the state examination he became a research assistant at the Museum of German History . From 1955 he worked as a research assistant or employee in the economic history department of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin and at the same time as a part-time seminar leader for economic history in the distance learning department of the economics faculty of the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . In July 1958 he obtained his doctorate in Berlin. rer. oec. with a thesis on the “History of the work regulations in the Mansfeld copper slate mining from the feudal 18th century to 1945”.

From 1960 to 1961 Lärmer was a lecturer at the Berlin School of Economics . In June 1968 he completed his habilitation with Elfriede Rehbein , Wolfgang Jonas and Rolf Sonnemann on "Autobahns in the service of fascist German imperialism". In 1979 he succeeded the sick Jonas as head of the department “History of Productive Forces / Industry” at the Institute for Economic History of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR , which he held until 1989. At the same time, he headed the “Economic History of Capitalism” research area at the Institute for Economic History. After the reunification and peaceful revolution in the GDR , Lärmer took early retirement and worked as a private scholar.
