Karl Ludwig Prince
Karl Ludwig Prinz (born October 25, 1875 in Vienna ; † December 28, 1944 there ) was an Austrian painter and set designer . He is known for spacious landscapes from the Vienna Woods , the Alpine foothills and the Alps ( South Tyrolean Dolomites ).
Life
Prince was self-taught . He lived in Germany from 1894 to 1898 . From 1908 he was a member of the Vienna Fine Arts Cooperative . From 1912 he created sets for the court opera in Vienna and for theaters in Munich , Hamburg and New York . During the First World War he was accepted as a war painter in the Austro-Hungarian war press headquarters .
Emperor Franz Joseph I and Emperor Karl I had works by Karl Ludwig Prinz in their collection.
Prince was a member of the Dürerbund .
Prinzgasse in the 22nd district of Vienna, Donaustadt, was named after Prinz in 1957 .
