Karl Mommsen

Karl Mommsen (born April 19, 1861 in Berlin ; † July 18, 1922 ) was a German bank director and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Mommsen was the second son of the historian Theodor Mommsen and the father of the historian Wilhelm Mommsen . He studied law at the universities of Munich and Berlin . During his studies he became a member of the Academic Liedertafel Berlin in the Sondershäuser Association in 1883/84 . In 1885 he became a trainee lawyer and in 1890 a court assessor. In 1891 Mommsen became in-house counsel at the English gas company in Berlin, in 1894 in-house counsel for Siemens & Halske and from 1897 he was director of Mitteldeutsche Creditbank in Berlin. From the beginning of 1894 he was also a member of the city ​​council of Berlin and in 1906 he was elected to the Berlin Chamber of Commerce.

From 1903 to 1912 Mommsen was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Danzig 3 ( Danzig City ) and the Liberal Association . Between 1912 and 1918 he was also a member of the Prussian House of Representatives , in which he represented the constituency of Berlin 2.
