Karl Nernst (Author)

Karl Ludwig Nernst (* 1775 in Anklam ; † January 4, 1815 in Stockholm ) was a German author and educator .

Life

Nernst was a student in Wolgast with Ludwig Gotthard Kosegarten , who promoted his literary talent. He studied in Greifswald and then became a private tutor in Schwarbe, today a district of Altenkirchen , on the Rügen peninsula Wittow . He lived close to his mentor Kosegarten, who lived in the rectory in Altenkirchen. One of his friends was Ernst Moritz Arndt , whom he had met in Greifswald and who taught Kosegarten's children as a private teacher from 1796 to 1798. In September 1797, Nernst undertook an eight-day trip through Rügen. The report he wrote about it is considered the first printed travelogue exclusively dealing with Rügen and reached a broader public. In autumn 1797 Nernst went to the German Lyceum in Stockholm as vice-principal . He later became rector there . Arndt stayed with him on his visits to Stockholm in 1803 and 1807.

Nernst only died in Stockholm at the age of 40.
