Carl Otto Rechenberg (born November 26, 1689 in Leipzig ; † April 7, 1751 there ) was a German jurist, poet and historian.

Life

Carl Otto was the only surviving son of Adam Rechenberg . His mother was Susanne Katherina († August 1726), the daughter of the theologian Philipp Jacob Spener , who attached great importance to his upbringing and had him trained by private teachers and at the Thomasschule Leipzig . Soon he had acquired the tools to relate to the University of Leipzig , where he gave philosophical and legal lectures with Gottfried Olearius , Johann Burckhardt Mencke , Christian Wolff , Lüder Mencke , Christian Gottfried Franckenstein (1661-1717), Christoph Schreiter and Gottlieb Gerhard Titius ( 1661–1714) visited.

1709 he acquired the academic degree of Magister in philosophy and a doctorate in 1710 at the University of Wittenberg for Doctor of rights. When he returned to Leipzig, he gave lectures on history and law, which were well attended. Therefore, in 1711, he was given the newly established professorship of natural and international law . In 1715 he became a full professor with the title de Verborum Significatu et Regulis Juris . In 1720 he was promoted to professor of institutes and pandects. Associated with this he was canon of the Naumburg and Zeitz monasteries , as well as an assessor at the Oberhofgericht in Leipzig.

After he also acquired the office of grand provost (Präositi Magni) of the three old village communities in 1723, he was appointed professor of the code with the associated canonical in Meißen in 1727 . In 1734 he finally became professor of decretals and senior assessor at the Court of Justice. In 1735 he was appointed royal Polish and electoral Saxon court and judicial councilor. The captivating rhetorician also appeared as a poet and historian. Rechenberg was also rector of the alma mater in the winter semester of 1717 .

Rechenberg was married twice. His first marriage was on November 26, 1715 with Magarethe Regine († November 30, 1720 in Leipzig), the daughter of the Leipzig lawyer Dr. Leonhard Baudis (born February 18, 1651 in Liegnitz; † November 8, 1709 in Leipzig). His second marriage was in 1726 with Christiane Sophie Schneider, widowed von Seelen.
