Karl Philipp (born October 26, 1872 in Vienna ; † January 15, 1949 there ) was an Austrian sculptor and medalist .

Life

Karl Philipp studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in the master class for sculpture with Carl Kundmann and Caspar von Zumbusch . From 1908 he was a member of the Wiener Künstlerhaus and created numerous monuments and fountains in the city of Vienna.

During the First World War in 1916 he was accepted as a war sculptor in the art group of the kuk war press quarter and, as an artist fit for front duty, he was assigned to the replacement company of the Feldjäger Battalion Karl von Kopal No. 10 in St. Pölten . In 1917 he worked in his studio at Dornbacherstraße 4a in Vienna- Hernals on re-uniforming the Austro-Hungarian army . Shortly before the end of the war, Karl Philipp received the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order with war decorations in recognition of his meritorious achievements in the war. On November 9, 1918, he and all other artists in the art group who were over 42 years old were taken out of service.

In the post-war period, he carried out the Adalbert Stifter monument in Vienna's Türkenschanzpark , the Josef Madersperger monument on Karlsplatz and the Franziskusbrunnen in the Starchant settlement. Philipp died at the age of 77 in his hometown of Vienna, he is buried at the Dornbacher Friedhof (group 34, number 53).
