Karl Reidel

Karl Reidel (born September 25, 1927 in Landshut ; † January 14, 2006 in Obergangkofen ) was a German sculptor .

From 1945 to 1948 he completed an apprenticeship as a stone sculptor in Landshut. After the journeyman's examination studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Professor Anton Hiller . Graduation in 1954: master class student with a diploma. In 1953 he received a scholarship from the Kulturkreis der deutschen Industrie and a prize in the competition for a Geschwister-Scholl monument at the University of Munich. In 1954 he was awarded the “Great Bavarian State Prize” for young artists, which was awarded for the first time after the war.

In 1961 he had his first solo exhibition with Rolf Becker in the "Neue Galerie im Künstlerhaus" in Munich. In 1963 he was commissioned to build a 65 meter long way of the cross in concrete for the retreat house in Leitershofen. In 1964 he was awarded the Water Lily Prize of the City of Munich. In 1967 she participated in the "Painting & Sculpture Today" exhibition at the Herron Museum of Art , Indianapolis. In 1968 he created the Nepomuk statue on the Kurfürstenbrücke in Amberg . In 1969 he received the East Bavarian Culture Prize .

Intensive involvement with bronze casting since the late 1960s, which led to the establishment of his own foundry. He received numerous commissions from private and public sources. He created the fountain system in front of the former OBAG casino in Regensburg, Prüfinger Strasse 20, in 1970; The building and fountain are under monument protection (D-3-62-000-2167).

He was married to the painter and children's book author Marlene Reidel . The eldest daughter Beate Rose is a painter. He was friends with the sculptors Blasius Gerg in Glonn and Fritz Koenig . He was considered an avid collector of glass works of art. In 1995 he exhibited selected pieces from this collection in the Mining and Industry Museum Theuern . In 2002/03 Karl Reidel was honored by a large retrospective of the museums of the city of Landshut. Well over 20,000 visitors saw the exhibition in the Heilig-Geist-Kirche.
