Karl Schäuffelen (born June 8, 1853 in Heilbronn ; † December 24, 1917 there ; also Carl Schaeuffelen ) was a German entrepreneur , paper manufacturer and inventor of pyramid-grain paper .

Karl Schäuffelen was the second son of Gustav Schäuffelen II (1822–1868), and grandson of Gustav Schäuffelen I (1798–1848). He attended grammar school and secondary school in Heilbronn and then completed a one-year practical training course in a machine factory in Heilbronn. From 1869 to 1875 he studied at the Mittweida technical center and at the polytechnics in Zurich and Karlsruhe . In Karlsruhe he became a member of the Teutonia fraternity . In 1873/74 Schäuffelen interrupted his studies for a year in the military at the field artillery regiment in Ludwigsburg and in 1875 became a reserve officer.

Professional background

From 1876 to 1878 Schäuffelen worked as a designer for turbine construction at Roy and Cie. in Vevey . From 1878 to 1879 he took part in a scientific course in the technology of paper production in Berlin and then toured around 50 paper mills in Germany , Austria , Italy and France . During that time he worked in two Austrian fine paper mills.

In 1880 Schäuffelen joined his family's paper mill as technical manager, alongside his uncle Richard Schäuffelen (1829–1882). The following year, Karl Schäuffelen's brother Richard (1851–1911) also joined the paper mill. After the uncle's death on December 29, 1882, both brothers took over the management. Karl Schäuffelen led the technical board from January 2, 1883. In this role he invented and patented the pyramid grain paper, which went into production in 1891. After the death of his brother in 1911, Karl Schäuffelen took over the management of the factory.

Memberships

Schäuffelen was a member of the Heilbronn Chamber of Commerce, since 1905 a member of the income tax assessment commission for Heilbronn, technical member of the district government in Ludwigsburg for water matters, on the supervisory board of the cement and electricity works in Lauffen am Neckar , at the Cluss brewery and the Heilbronn housing association.

Schäuffelen was born with Emma. Cavallo (1864-1917) married and had three children. He died as a result of a heart attack.
