Karl Theodor Eichler

Karl Theodor Eichler (born May 15, 1868 in Oberspaar near Meißen ; † February 3, 1946 there ) was a German porcelain modeler and sculptor .

Life

Theodor Eichler was born the son of a master builder in Oberspaar near Meißen. He attended the primary school in Cölln near Meißen and then the middle school. Following his confirmation, he studied at the business school in Meißen. After an aptitude test, he began studying drawing and modeling with Ernst August Leuteritz and Emmerich Andresen in the Meißner porcelain factory in 1885 . In September 1886 he was hired in the factory and completed a five-year training as a bossier. He then studied from 1891 to 1894 at the Dresden School of Applied Arts with Hugo Spieler . He then worked as a modeller at the Meissen porcelain factory. In April 1896 he studied sculpture at the Dresden Art Academy in the upper class with Ernst Moritz Geyger . In September 1897 he studied with Robert Diez and worked as a master student in his studio. In his last semester he saved the tuition fees due to his great artistic talent and achievements. He finished his very successful studies in 1903. Then he was employed again at the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory. During his studies he received several awards and certificates of honor as well as the small gold medal as a special award from the art academy. With various bronze sculptures he has been represented at various art exhibitions in Dresden , Berlin , Düsseldorf and Hanover since 1899 . Study trips on behalf of his employer took him to North Africa and Paris in 1913 and later to Rome . His sculptures were characterized by objectivity and realism . In 1910 he also worked as a sculptor with his own studio in Meissen. Since 1907 he was a member of the artists' association Mappe .
