Karl W. Steininger

Karl W. Steininger (born September 1, 1965 in Vienna ) is an Austrian economist and professor at the University of Graz .

Career

Steiniger studied at the University of Vienna , received his master's degree in 1988 , and went to the University of California, Berkeley on a Fulbright scholarship . In 1994 Erich W. Streissler did her doctorate in economics at the University of Vienna with a thesis on “Trade and Environment” . He worked at the Vienna University of Technology and in the environmental department of the World Bank . In 1990 he became university assistant , 1994 assistant professor and 1999 associate professor at the University of Graz. Since 2004 he has headed the “EconClim” working group for climate economics and sustainable transition at the Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change in Graz, named after Alfred Wegener .

Steiniger researches the economic effects of climate change and the possibilities of decarbonising the economy. To this end, he analyzes options for spatial planning , technical developments in industry and the supply of renewable energies . To do this, he uses concepts from environmental and resource economics , transport economics , spatial economics , international economics and public finances .

Since 2000 he has been working in working groups of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 2019 in the Climate and Air Quality Commission. He is President of the Economic Society and Chairman of the Monitoring Group for the Paris Agreement at the Road - Rail - Transport Research Association , former Chairman of the Board of the Climate Center Austria and former Chairman of the Committee for Environmental and Resource Economics of the Verein für Socialpolitik .
