Karl Wilhelm Schlegel

Karl Wilhelm Schlegel (born November 18, 1828 in Schaan , † September 24, 1900 in Vaduz ) was a Liechtenstein doctor, member of the state parliament, vice-president of the state parliament and president of the state parliament.

biography

Schlegel was born as the son of the doctor Hannibal Schlegel and his wife Josefa in Schaan. When he was a year and a half, his family moved to Prättigau due to a shortage of doctors in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . He attended school in Klosters . In 1838 the family moved back to Liechtenstein and lived first in Vaduz and then again in Schaan. In 1847 Schlegel enrolled in medicine at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg , from where he moved to Vienna in 1850 . In 1853 he received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Freiburg and in the same year received a license as a doctor in Liechtenstein. In 1872 he was appointed State Physician of Liechtenstein . After the new constitution came into force in 1863, Schlegel became a deputy member of the state parliament. In 1868 he was appointed MP. From 1871 to 1876, 1878 to 1881 and 1886 to 1889 he was President of the State Parliament. From 1861 to 1889 and 1890/91 he was vice-president of the state parliament. He remained a member of parliament until his death.
