Otmar Hasler (born September 28, 1953 in Gamprin / Bendern ) was head of government of the Principality of Liechtenstein from 2001 to 2009 . On April 5, 2001, he took over the position of his predecessor Mario Frick . On February 8, 2009, he announced his resignation. On March 25, 2009 he was replaced by Klaus Tschütscher .

biography

Otmar Hasler studied at the University of Friborg (Switzerland) and graduated with a secondary teaching diploma. From 1979 to 2001 he worked as a teacher at the secondary school in Eschen (Liechtenstein) . Otmar Hasler is married to Traudi Hasler (née Hilti) and has four children. Before his election as Prime Minister of the Principality of Liechtenstein Otmar Hasler held various political posts and was among other 1989-2001 deputy in the Liechtenstein Parliament, the Landtag . He was also Vice-President of the State Parliament (1994, 1996 to 2001) and State Parliament President (1995). Between 1993 and 1995 he also worked as President of the Progressive Citizens' Party in Liechtenstein and since 1993 as a member of the Presidium.

On April 5, 2001, Otmar Hasler took over the business of government from his predecessor Mario Frick (Vaterländische Union, VU), after the Progressive Citizens' Party won 13 of 25 parliamentary seats in the Liechtenstein parliamentary elections in February 2001 with 49.9 percent of the votes. In the parliamentary elections from 11./13. In March 2005 the Progressive Citizens' Party with Prime Minister Otmar Hasler was able to achieve the highest percentage of votes among the parties despite losing votes, but lost the absolute majority in parliament.

During his term of office from 2001 to 2005, Otmar Hasler held the government departments (comparable to ministries) Presidium, Finance, Construction as well as Family and Equality. In his second term in office, Prime Minister Otmar Hasler was responsible for the Presidium, Finance and Construction. As head of government, he led the coalition government of FBP and VU, established in April 2005 . After the VU became the strongest party in the state elections on February 8, 2009 , Otmar Hasler announced his resignation as head of government. The new head of government on March 25th was his previous deputy, Klaus Tschütscher.

Otmar Hasler left a lasting mark on the political landscape in the Principality of Liechtenstein with his personality. On March 24, 2009 SD Prince Hans Adam II von und zu Liechtenstein awarded him the title of “Princely Council” for his services to the State of Liechtenstein.
