Wilhelm Beck (politician)

Wilhelm Beck (born March 26, 1885 in Triesenberg ; † January 20, 1936 in Walenstadt ) was a politician who was one of the founders of the People's Party (VP) in the Principality of Liechtenstein in 1918.

biography

He studied law in Zurich and Munich and obtained his doctorate in 1911. iur. From 1912 to 1918 he worked in law firms in Flums and St. Gallen . From 1914 he became the owner of a law firm in Vaduz , where he also worked in the fiduciary sector from 1919. From 1914 to 1928 and from 1932 to 1934 he held the mandate of member of the state parliament . From 1922 to 1928 his party held the majority in the state parliament, which was initially set up purely for party politics, so that the task of the state parliament president fell to him. For a short time he was also a government councilor in Liechtenstein.

Wilhelm Beck had a decisive influence on the dissolution of the customs treaty with Austria in 1919, the constitution of 1921, the customs connection to Switzerland from 1923-24 and on other important and far-sighted developments in Liechtenstein legislation that formed the basis for the country's subsequent economic rise formed. At the age of 51, Dr. Wilhelm Beck on January 20, 1936. His book estate, on loan from the Liechtenstein Institute , is kept in the Liechtenstein National Library.
