Markus Büchel (politician, 1959)

Markus Büchel (born May 14, 1959 in Eschen ; † July 9, 2013 in Ruggell ) was a Liechtenstein lawyer and politician.

biography

Büchel belonged to the Progressive Citizens' Party in Liechtenstein . From 1981 to 1986 he studied law in Bern and Munich and then worked in the Department of Economics. After the state elections in February 1993 , which the Progressive Citizens' Party won, he succeeded Hans Brunhart on May 26, 1993 as head of government of the Principality of Liechtenstein . He only held office for seven months until December 15, 1993, when Prince Hans-Adam II dissolved parliament and scheduled new elections for October 24 . After a controversial personnel decision in September 1993, Büchel was asked by his party to resign immediately, and on September 14th the state parliament withdrew his confidence. Since September 22, 2002 Büchel has been Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Liechtenstein. He died of a serious illness in 2013 at the age of 54.
