Karl Wilhelm Joseph von Fabert (born April 22, 1823 in Karlsruhe , † April 5, 1904 in Bühl ) was a colonel in Baden , later a Prussian major general and most recently the commander of the fortress artillery regiment No. 5.

Career

From October 1, 1829 to July 31, 1839 he attended the Lyceum in Karlsruhe . After graduating, he joined the Baden artillery brigade as a gunner on April 5, 1840. There he was promoted to Portepeefähnrich on February 25, 1841, to Lieutenant on May 25, 1841 and to Lieutenant on October 28, 1845. From November 1, 1845 to March 31, 1849 he came as a teacher at the artillery school for NCOs . During this time he was assigned to the gun foundry and arms factory in Liège from July 1 to September 30, 1847 and from February 1 to July 31, 1848 . During the Baden Revolution in 1848 there was a march against the Freischaren, and from August 1, 1849 to March 17, 1850 he was an orderly officer of the Grand Duke of Baden Leopold .
After the unrest ended, he was a teacher at the artillery school for officers from October 1, 1859 to March 31, 1860 . During this time he was posted to France for artillery affairs in 1852 and 1859 and promoted to captain on September 30, 1854. He was also a member of the Artillery Commission of the VIII German Federal Corps from November 28, 1859 to June 15, 1860 .
From March 1, 1860 to February 10, 1864 he was appointed a member of the Artillery Committee. In 1860 and 1862 he was posted to Berlin to find out about the new rifled guns. He was promoted to major on February 4, 1864 and at the same time transferred to Rastatt fortress as artillery director. On October 26, 1867 was aggregated as a lieutenant colonel in the field artillery regiment and appointed artillery officer from the field . During the Franco-Prussian War he took part in the siege of Strasbourg . He was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class on January 18, 1871, Colonel without a patent and on May 30, 1871 .

With the establishment of the German Empire , the Baden army was also integrated into the Prussian army . Fabert was accepted into the Prussian army on July 15, 1871. There he initially received the character of a colonel, was aggregated into the 14th artillery brigade and confirmed as an artillery officer from the square in Rastatt. But on October 3, 1871, he was aggregated into the 4th Artillery Regiment and charged with the management of a department.
