Karl Wilhelm von Scheibler (born September 6, 1772 in Eupen , † January 29, 1843 in Josefstadt ) was a German soldier in Austrian service; at last he was the fortress commander of Legnano and Josefstadt in the rank of Lieutenant Field Marshal .

Live and act

The son of the cloth manufacturer Bernhard Georg von Scheibler (1724–1786) and Clara Maria Moll (1733–1802) and grandson of Johann Heinrich Scheibler from Monschau, unlike his brothers, decided early on to pursue a military career. He began this first in the Prussian army , but for unknown reasons changed in 1799 as a lieutenant to the Imperial and Royal Galician Uhlan Regiment "Ritter von Brudermann" No. 1 of the Imperial Habsburg Army. Here Scheibler was promoted to first lieutenant on May 2 of the same year and to Rittmeister on December 1 , after he had distinguished himself through cold-bloodedness and boldness on several missions in the context of the First Coalition War .

Further war missions followed and Scheibler again drew particular attention to himself at Urfahr in 1805 , when he was responsible for the successful evacuation of enemy posts during the coalition wars , whereupon he was promoted to major in the Chevauxleger regiment Rosenberg on November 6, 1805 . After another excellently managed mission in the Battle of Aspern , he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in the Chevauxlegers regiment Vincent in 1809 and promoted to colonel only a year later.

In 1810 he temporarily resigned, but as early as 1812 he was appointed first to the “supernumerary” (additional) and from March 29, 1814 to the official regimental commander in the Galician Uhlan Regiment “Archduke Franz Ferdinand” No. 7 . In 1817 he received the regimental command in the Bohemian Dragoon Regiment "Prince of Windisch-Graetz" No. 14 .

These were Scheibler's last active missions in the war, who was subsequently promoted to major general in 1823 and finally to field marshal lieutenant in 1832 . Finally he was appointed fortress commander of Legnano in 1836 and Josefstadt in 1839. Here he spent his last years and died highly decorated on January 29, 1843.
