Karl Alwens , from 1887 von Alwens , (born May 5, 1820 in Frankenthal ; † December 26, 1889 in Munich ) was a lawyer and Bavarian politician.

Life

He was the son of the later President of the Palatinate government, Franz Alwens (1792–1871) and his wife Caroline nee Falciola from Lauterecken .

Alwens graduated from high school in Speyer in 1838 and studied law in Munich and Heidelberg from 1839 to 1843 . From 1849 he was a district court assessor in Kaiserslautern and until 1860 a judge in Göllheim , then a district judge and later a chief magistrate in Bergzabern .

From 1866 until his death Alwens was a member of the Bavarian Chamber of Deputies , leader of the Palatinate MPs and member of the board of the national liberal and all-liberal parliamentary groups. In 1887 he became Vice-President of the Chamber of Deputies and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown , which made it necessary for him to be elevated to the rank of personal nobility.

His sisters Julie Alwens (1823–1849) and Susanne Alwens (1828–1899) successively married the appellate judge Goswin Hörmann von Hörbach (1810–1873), son of Joseph Hörmann von Hörbach , the district president of Upper Bavaria. After the death of her husband in 1873, Susanne Hörmann von Hörbach b. Alwens, a religiously motivated poor relief worker in Munich, became a Benedictine on the advice of her confessor, Speyer Bishop Daniel Bonifaz von Haneberg , and died in 1899 as sister Lioba and prioress of the Frauenchiemsee monastery . The foundation of the daughter monastery in Tettenweis goes back to her initiative .

Karoline Roos b. Alwens, his other sister, was killed in a robbery on February 14, 1896, along with their daughter Julie.
