Carl Freiherr von Tubeuf - also Karl (Freiherr) von Tubeuf - (born January 20, 1862 in Amorbach , † February 8, 1941 in Munich ) was a German forest scientist , plant pathologist and professor of anatomy, physiology and pathology of plants. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Tubeuf ".

Life

Carl von Tubeuf was the eldest son of the Princely Liningian domain director in Amorbach, Simon Anton Freiherr von Tubeuf (1802–1870), and his wife Luise, née von Ploennies (1839–1915); his brothers were Anton and Ernst von Tubeuf (1864–1941). In the school year 1872/73 he entered the 1st class of the Munich Maximiliansgymnasium and there in 1881 - with Gustav von Kahr , Robert Piloty and Ernst von Plönnies (1861–1920), the son of the princely-Liningian forester in Amorbach, - the Abitur.

Carl von Tubeuf studied forest science in Aschaffenburg and at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. He first became an assistant to the Munich professor for forest botany , Robert Hartig , and married his daughter Edith (1870–1945). After working at the Imperial Health Department in Berlin from 1898 to 1901, he was appointed to the chair for anatomy, physiology and pathology of plants at the Munich University in 1902 as the successor to his late father-in-law. Tubeuf was the first chairman of the Association for Nature Conservation in Bavaria , founded on June 26, 1913 by representatives of the State Committee for Nature Conservation, the Bavarian Botanical Society, the Bavarian Ornithological Society and the Association for Natural History , which is under the "Protectorate of His Royal Highness", Crown Prince Rupprecht from Bavaria , stood. As a committed nature conservationist, Tubeuf prevented in 1916/17 a huge “Assyrian” lioness from being carved into the Falkensteiner Wall at Königssee as a reminder of the war. In 1921, with the support of other institutions, he succeeded in expanding the “Berchtesgaden Alps protected plant district” established in 1910 to around 20,300 hectares to become the “Königssee nature reserve”. In 1933 he retired. In 1938 he was elected an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh .

Honors

Tubeufstrasse in Munich today commemorates him. The mushroom genus Tubeufia Penz is also named after him . & Sacc. named.
