Karsten Friedrich Hoppenstedt (born April 6, 1937 in Osnabrück ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He was a member of the European Parliament from 1989 to 1999 and again from 2004 to 2009 .

Life and work

Hoppenstedt completed a degree in veterinary medicine in Giessen , Vienna and Hanover , which he completed in 1964 when he was granted a license to practice medicine . In 1965 he received his doctorate as Dr. med. vet at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover with the thesis "Comparative examinations for the diagnosis of avian tuberculosis with the help of the fresh blood rapid agglutination and the tuberculin shawl sample in the catchment area of ​​the animal health office Hannover. With special consideration of the degree of contamination with tuberculosis ” . Hoppenstedt worked as a resident veterinarian from 1964 to 1989.

From 1999 to 2004 he was a representative of WestLB in Brussels .

Karsten Hoppenstedt is married and has four children.

Hoppenstedt was a member of the European Parliament for the first time from 1989 to 1999 . During this time he was the media policy spokesman for the EPP group and coordinator of the EPP group in the subcommittee on currency.

From 2004 to 2009 he was again a member of the European Parliament. Hoppenstedt was the local political spokesman for the CDU / CSU group and was a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs .
