Tatsumi Kasahara ( Japanese 笠原 辰 己 , Kasahara Tatsumi ; born January 21, 1977 in Myōkōkōgen (today: Myōkō ), Niigata Prefecture ) is a former Japanese biathlete and former cross-country skier .

Career

Tatsumi Kasahara is a sports soldier and lives in Sapporo . He made his international debut as 28th in a 10-kilometer FIS cross-country race in Otoineppu . After that, between 1998 and 2000 he competed exclusively in Continental Cup races over 10 and 15 kilometers in Japan (in Sapporo and Hakuba ). The best result was an eleventh place. In 2000 he switched to biathlon.

In biathlon, Kasahara competes for the "winter combat training unit" of the ground self-defense forces and is trained by Fukushi. The Japanese competed in the biathlon world cup for the first time during a relay race in 2001 in Antholz . After he had achieved good results at the start of the Biathlon European Cup in Ål at the beginning of the 2001/02 season , including a sixth place in the sprint, he was used in Pokljuka for the first time in a single race in the World Cup and was 81st of the sprint competition. In the period that followed, Kasahara was able to steadily improve and stabilize its performance. Thus he was nominated for the 2003 biathlon world championships in Khanty-Mansiysk . In Russia he ran in three races, the best result was a 46th place in the individual, which was his best result to date. He could not quite achieve the good results at the 2004 World Cup in Oberhof . With 49th place in the sprint and 43rd in the pursuit, his results at the 2005 World Cup in Hochfilzen became more stable again. The highpoint in Kasaharas career was participating in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games of Turin . At the competitions in Cesana San Sicario , the Japanese competed in four of the five races and was 67th in the individual, 47th in the sprint, 50th in the pursuit and 12th in the relay of Japan. In the post-Olympic season he achieved his best ever World Cup result as 32nd in the individual in Östersund . In the same place he was also 35 in the individual biathlon world championships in 2008. It was Kasahara's second-best result. There was also a 55th place in the sprint and a 54th place in the pursuit.
