Kaspar Jentzkow

Kaspar Jentzkow (* 1535 in Friedland , † beginning of October 1611 in Stralsund , ▭ on October 8, 1611 there) was a German educator and Lutheran clergyman .

Life

Jentzkow was a descendant of a member of the Mecklenburg noble family von Gentzkow and grew up in Friedland, where he also attended school. He enrolled at the University of Rostock in December 1561 . After completing his studies, he worked for six years as a teacher at the school in Neubrandenburg and accompanied Ulrich von Schwerin, son of the Grand Court Master Ulrich von Schwerin , to Greifswald University as Hofmeister . The mayor of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund Nikolaus Gentzkow appointed him rector of the Sundisches Gymnasium in 1570 . At this school, for which he worked out new school regulations in 1591, he worked until the spring of 1598. His successor as rector was Lorenz Rhodomann .

At his own request, he had already been appointed archdeacon of the St. Nikolai Church by the city council of Stralsund in autumn 1597 , but his ordination was delayed due to a dispute between the city and the Pomeranian reformer and responsible general superintendent Friedrich Runge . It finally took place without the participation of Runge or his subordinate pastors in Hamburg .

Kaspar Jentzkow worked as a pastor at the Nikolaikirche until his death. He was buried there too; a half-length portrait in the church commemorates him. His son of the same name became pastor at the Heilgeistkirche in 1620 and died in the same year.
