Cassian Primisser
Cassian Primisser (also Cassian Karl Primisser or Kassian Primisser ; born April 14, 1735 in Agums near Prad am Stilfserjoch as Karl Primisser ; † December 19, 1771 in the Cistercian Abbey of Stams ) was a Cistercian priest , archivist , librarian , theologian and historian from Tyrol .
Life
Primisser was the son of a farmer and came from the Primisser family in South Tyrol . He attracted attention early on because of his talent and was therefore allowed to attend the Merano grammar school after the village school in Prad . He then came to the University of Innsbruck , where he studied in particular at the Philosophical Faculty, where his preferences lay in history and geography . His education was mainly financed through scholarships. In the end, he is said to have taught at the Innsbruck University for a short time.
On the intercession of the influential Tyrolean nobleman Ignaz Kassian Bonaventura von Enzenberg, Primisser was able to join the Cistercian Abbey of Stams on September 21, 1755 . There he received the religious name Cassian, made his profession on September 21, 1756 and was ordained a priest on September 22, 1759 . In 1762 he was given the task of writing a chronicle of the monastery from Abbot Rogerius Sailer , whose secretary he was temporarily, and in 1763 to organize the monastery archives; he had already organized and cataloged the library beforehand. He was in charge of the archive and the office.
Primisser died of a breast ailment. His brother was the museum specialist Johann Baptist Primisser , Alois Primisser was his nephew, as was the theologian Kaspar Unterkircher . The poet Johann Friedrich Primisser was his cousin.
