description
The cave has a height difference of 135 m over a one kilometer guide path. The entrance hall leads to the inward sloping entrance hall with moss- covered and algae-covered sintered columns .
The largest column in the entrance hall is 22 m high and 46 m in circumference. From there you can see into the 45 m deep "Marteldom".
One of the largest halls is the 120 m long, up to 85 m wide and 18 m high “Fantasy Hall”. Here is a collection of around 4,000 large stalactite structures with a wealth of shapes: You can find lime corals, white and colored sintered curtains, crystals and crystal columns. The fantasy hall is accessed by a system of stairs and steps. From the Fantasy Hall you can reach the other discoveries made by the researcher couple Hermann and Regina Hofer in 1955: The “Magic Realm” and the “Sea Paradise”, which are characterized by a special variety of shapes. There are also cave lakes to be found there.
There were numerous bone finds of the cave bear in the cave .
Naming
The cave is named after the so-called "owl hangover". In the region, this is the name given to the male owl that flies in and out of the portal.
